Surah Al-Falaq — Tawakkul: Working Hard While Trusting Allah
Assalamu Alaikum, my bright leaders! 🐦
Today’s lesson is about Tawakkul, one of the most important spiritual skills a Muslim can develop. Tawakkul means relying upon Allah, trusting His wisdom, and depending on Him while still taking the right actions.
The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, gave us a beautiful example. He taught that if we relied on Allah as He truly deserves, Allah would provide for us just as He provides for the birds. They go out in the morning hungry and return in the evening full.
This example is simple, but its meaning is deep.
The bird leaves the nest hungry. That shows need.
The bird flies and searches. That shows effort.
The bird returns full. That shows Allah’s provision.
Two Sides of Tawakkul
From this, we learn that Tawakkul has two sides:
- Taking the means: using the halal tools, abilities, and opportunities Allah gives us.
- Trusting Allah: knowing that success, provision, protection, and results come from Him alone.
Two Common Mistakes
A mistake some people make is thinking that trust means doing nothing. They might say, “I trust Allah,” but they do not study, prepare, apologize, practice, or make effort. That is not the lesson of the bird. The bird does not stay in its nest. It moves.
Another mistake is thinking that effort alone guarantees success. A person may work hard and start to believe, “I did everything myself.” That is also not correct. A Muslim works hard but knows that Allah is the true Provider.
Connected to Surah Al-Falaq
This connects strongly to Surah Al-Falaq. The Surah begins: “Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak.” Daybreak is the moment when light opens through darkness. It reminds us that Allah can bring relief after fear, clarity after confusion, and hope after worry.
Birds begin their search as morning arrives. Their movement in the daybreak is almost like a daily lesson written across the sky: trust Allah, then use what He gave you.
Tawakkul in Real Situations
For students your age, Tawakkul applies to many real situations:
- If you are preparing for a quiz, you study carefully and ask Allah for understanding.
- If you have a disagreement with a friend, you choose kind words, try to fix the problem, and trust Allah with the outcome.
- If you feel nervous about the future, you make good choices today and remember that Allah knows what is ahead.
- If you want to memorize Qur’an, you repeat the verses, listen carefully, ask for help, and make du‘a.
Protection From Arrogance and Despair
From Arrogance
We know our success is from Allah.
From Despair
We know Allah can open a way even when we cannot see it yet.
This is why the bird example is so powerful. The bird is not in control of the whole earth, but it still lives with calm effort. It flies out with hunger and returns with provision. Its life points us back to Allah’s mercy.
Class Activity
Make a two-column chart.
Column 1: “My Effort” | Column 2: “My Trust in Allah”
My Effort: I study my lesson.
My Trust in Allah: I ask Allah to help me understand and accept the result.
Key Sentence:
“Tawakkul is not doing nothing. Tawakkul is doing what is right while relying on Allah.”
Teacher’s Closing Note
My bright leaders, may Allah make you people who work with excellence and trust with sincerity. The next time you see a bird flying in the morning, remember that Allah provides, Allah guides, and Allah never forgets His creation. Ameen.
