Surah Al-Falaq — What Does Al-Falaq Mean?

Assalamu Alaikum, my little stars! ⭐

Today we are learning a very beautiful word from the Qur’an: Al-Falaq.

Al-Falaq means the daybreak. Daybreak is the special time in the morning when the dark night goes away and the bright light begins to appear. Have you ever seen the sky become lighter in the morning? That beautiful light is a reminder from Allah.

Allah tells us to say:

“Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of Al-Falaq.”

That means: “I ask Allah, the Lord of the morning light, to protect me.”

Allah is the One who brings the morning. Allah is the One who makes the sun rise. Allah is the One who takes away the darkness of the night and gives us light again.

When the Night Feels Long

Sometimes children may feel a little scared when it is dark. Maybe the room is quiet. Maybe the night feels long. But Surah Al-Falaq teaches us something very comforting:

🤲

Allah is always with us.

🛡️

Allah can protect us.

🌅

Allah can bring light after darkness.

When we say Surah Al-Falaq, we are asking Allah to keep us safe from anything that may hurt us. We are not asking toys, people, or pretend magic to protect us. We ask Allah, because Allah is the best Protector.

Allah Takes Care of Everything

Think about a tiny flower in the morning. At night, the flower may be closed. But when the morning light comes, it opens again. Allah brings that light. Allah takes care of the flower, the birds, the trees, the animals, and you.

You are very special to Allah. When you recite Surah Al-Falaq, you can feel brave because you are asking the Lord of the daybreak to protect you.

Teacher Activity

Ask the students to close their eyes and imagine a dark night. Then ask them to open their eyes and imagine the bright morning sun. Say together:
