Surah Al-Falaq — I Trust Allah, the Lord of the Daybreak
Assalamu Alaikum, my wonderful explorers! 🌅
Today we are learning about Surah Al-Falaq, one of the two special Surahs of protection. These two Surahs are Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas. Together, they are called Al-Mu‘awwidhatayn, which means “the two Surahs used for seeking Allah’s protection.”
Surah Al-Falaq begins by teaching us to say:
“Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak.”
To seek refuge means to run to a safe place. When we recite Surah Al-Falaq, our safe place is Allah. We are not running to a building, a toy, or another person first. We are turning our hearts to Allah, the One who made the morning light and controls everything.
Why Does Allah Mention the Daybreak?
Daybreak reminds us that Allah can change darkness into light. He can change fear into courage. He can change worry into peace. Every morning is a sign that Allah is powerful, kind, and always in control.
The Prophet ﷺ and the Mu‘awwidhatayn
Tafsir Ibn Kathir teaches that the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, used Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas as special prayers for protection. The Prophet taught us that the words of Allah are the best words to protect the heart.
What Surah Al-Falaq Asks Allah to Protect Us From
- the harm of created things,
- the darkness when it spreads,
- harmful secret actions,
- and envy when someone feels jealous in a bad way.
This does not mean we should be scared of everything. It means we should be smart and trust Allah. A Muslim heart is brave because it knows Allah is the best Protector.
Important Word: Tawakkul
Tawakkul means trusting Allah. When we have Tawakkul, we still try our best, but we know the final protection comes from Allah.
Example — The Bird
A bird leaves its nest in the morning to find food. It does not sit and worry all day. It tries, flies, searches, and trusts Allah. We should be like that. We do our best, recite our duas, make good choices, and trust Allah.
Activity — Draw a Sunrise
Draw a sunrise. In the middle of the sun, write:
“Allah is my Protector.”
Practice
Recite Surah Al-Falaq after Fajr, after Maghrib, and before sleeping. Try to memorize the meaning:
“I ask Allah, the Lord of the daybreak, to protect me.”
Closing Reminder
My brave explorers, Surah Al-Falaq teaches us that we are never alone. When the world feels dark, Allah can bring the light. When our hearts feel worried, Allah can bring peace.
Mini Du‘aa: Ya Allah, make me brave, protect me from harm, and help me trust You every day. Ameen. 🤲
